Office 365 2fa

Aside from the security benefits, enabling MFA is also one of the recommendations in the Office 365 Secure Score report, and you’ll get a nice 50 point bump to show your boss. In this example I’ll be using MFA for Office 365 to enable multi-factor authentication. Authentication to Office 365 is driven by Azure Active Directory (shortly known as Azure AD). It manages identities and authentication for Office 365. Each user can access Office 365 resources using the credentials (a combination of username and password). Multi-factor authentication adds a layer of security on top of it. . You must be a Global admin to manage MFA. If you have legacy per-user MFA turned on, Turn off legacy per-user MFA. If you have Office 2013 clients on Windows devices, turn on Modern Authentication for Office 2013 clients. Advanced: If you.

Install Authy

The best way to manage all your 2FA accounts is to use the Authy app. It enables you to have a single mobile app for all your 2FA accounts and you can sync them across multiple devices, even accessing them on the desktop. Install Authy 2FA on your device by searching for it in your device’s app store.

Important: If any sites prompt you to use Google Authenticator for two-factor authentication, note that you can always substitute the Authy 2FA app instead. Although they work in similar ways, Authy is more feature-rich and allows for multi-device syncing, cloud-backups, and easier account recovery should you change or lose your phone or device. Read more information on the features of Authy here.

Setting up Identity verification app.

  • In order to add your account to Authy – please click ‘Set up identity verification app’ on the Additional security options page.
  • And then, click on ‘Set up a different Authenticator app’ on the next screen.

The Microsoft QR code automatically pops up.

To capture the QR code, launch Authy on your device. Click ‘Add Account’ at the bottom of the screen.

You’ll be prompted to hold your phone up to your computer to ‘Scan QRCode’.

Now capture the QR code shown on the Microsoft website.

Once the QR code is successfully captured, Authy will display your Microsoft numeric account key. You can rename this token as you see fit. When ready, click ‘Done.’

Finish Setup

Back on your device, an Authy 2FA code is now generated for your Microsoft account. Head over to the Microsoft website and enter the Authy code in the entry space provided under the QR code.

An app password is a code that gives an app or device permission to access your Office 365 account. You only need to set up an app password if you are using a non-Microsoft email application, or an outdated version of Office. IT only supports the Outlook app on your mobile device. IT does not support other email applications, such as Mail on the iPhone or Android device.

Please note:

If you are using the native Mail app on your Android device, you will have to enter an app password for your phone. If you use the Outlook App on your phone, you will not have to generate an app password for your Android device.

You will know that you need to generate an app password if you can log into Office 365, or your myLesley or LOIS account with your Lesley password, but some other application or device doesn't allow you to log in with your Lesley password. This happens with an older application that doesn't support multi-factor authentication. If that happens, then you must create an app password. Once you've created the password, you would use that app password to log into that older application. You should only have to do that once per device.

Creating an app password

1. Sign into Office 365 at http://www.lesley.edu/office365.

2. Click on the little gear settings icon and choose Office 365 settings (picture A). Note that if you are already in your Lesley email or another Office 365, you will find the Office 365 settings under Your App settings section (picture B). If you have never used your account before, you can click on your initials in the upper right-hand corner and thing choose My account (picture C).

Then you can manually enter the app password to the device for which the password was intended. Under no circumstances should you email yourself the password!
